The Reasons for Creating this Site

The purpose of this site is to use our computer skills in a unique way. There is another reason for creating this site. The main author is suffering from idiopathic late onset cerebellar ataxia (ILOCA). In 2005, he received that diagnostic from a neurologist who also told him that it was evolving towards MSA (multiple-systems atrophy). In 2008, he was diagnosed as having lesions to the cerebellar pathway.

The author also visited a neurologist researcher in genetics and received the confirmation, from another neurologist that in this case, it was caused by mutation.

Using the data that will be collected from people suffering from Ataxia, the authors hope to shed some new light on the origin of ILOCA and maybe, the findings will benefit science and society in general.

This new knowledge should provoke a breakthrough in fields, whether they are related to the medical field or not, and this database could be used for the greater good.

The Work Team

The work team is made up of two people: the author and a computer specialist. The author has worked on a database before and taken classes on that subject as well. The computer specialist who created this site has started his own company. The medical side of this site was completed after participating in forums hosted by the Canadian Association For Familial Ataxias (CAFA). The participation of an emergency physician was also required to answer medical-related questions.

Ataxia Questionnaire

Suffice to say that the majority of our questions on Ataxia and ILOCA were verified from a medical standpoint. The symptoms listed in this questionnaire, although specific to our case, will be very useful because they are common in many ILOCA Ataxia sufferers. Groups of Ataxia sufferers with shared symptoms would depend on the dosage (of the product handled) administered, the product overexposure intensity if applicable, or if the sufferers relate to one or more factors that have been taken into consideration in this questionnaire.

Who Should Fill Out this Questionnaire?

All Ataxia sufferers can fill out this questionnaire, not only those with ILOCA. By listing the symptoms and other factors, it would be possible to make the main groups of Ataxia or ILOCA sufferers stand out. It could even be possible to find potential diagnosis errors. Many analyses are possible. Therefore, we have to collect as much data as we can. If we obtain convincing results, changes could be made in more than one field.

Research Findings

The findings could be huge and affect several areas of human activities. Just to name a few:
1) Advances in research and medical advancement.
2) Legislative and juridical changes.
3), Advancement in fields using, or not, (GPS) satellite tracking.
Thanks to the gained expertise, we, as a society, would benefit from it.
